Constable’s property conversion

From Gerard Baudains.
PAULA Thelwell’s article regarding the new Island Plan (JEP, 19 November) was excellent – except for one major mistake.
She states that ‘Ten years ago the current Constable, Len Norman, fought in vain against rezoning land in his parish’.
I have to say the exact opposite is the case. During the Island Plan debate (seven years ago, not ten) I, as parish Deputy, brought an amendment to remove all the rezoned land from St Clement.
Senator Norman voted against me, demonstrating at that time he supported rezoning St Clement land. In fact, it was only when he started canvassing for Constable that he switched to opposing development – a bit late!
The States on-line minutes of the Island Plan debate clearly show that Senator Norman voted against removing land in St Clement from being rezoned. He fought for development, not against it.
