Silver for Mariana Agathangelou
JERSEY’S international badminton player Mariana Agathangelou’s debut with new ladies’ doubles partner Emma Mason has got off to a good start.
The pair, competing in the Scotland International Badminton Championship, came away with a silver medal only losing to the top seeds, world No 14s Valerie Sorkina and Nina Vislova from Russia, 21-16, 21-16 in the final.
Agathangelou also featured in the mixed doubles partnering Robin Middleton but the No 3 seeds were knocked out in the first round by English pair Dean George and Sam Ward 17-21, 21-11, 21-16.
It was a similar story for Jersey’s Elizabeth Cann as the No 4 seed went out in the opening round to Canada’s Jeanine Cicognini 21-15, 21-14.
