CI’s young stars court Winter Cup success

James Faudemer is one of five Jersey players in the seven-strong CI men’s team

CHANNEL Islands tennis players are back on court in the Lawn Tennis Association’s Winter County Cup this weekend.

The men are in Wrexham for Group 5B games against North Wales, Bedfordshire and Oxfordshire while the women are up in Glasgow opposing Bedfordshire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man in Group 6B.

Men’s player/manager Andrew Evans said: ‘Team-wise the CI men and the women have not had great results this year but I’m confident they will improve this weekend.

‘The men were in good form last December to gain promotion and it’s good for our players’ development that we will be in a tougher group.The opposition will have good teams but we’re pretty strong and we’re looking like a solid team.

‘We have a good mix of youth and experience and I believe that will benefit us as a group. A good start in our first match is paramount.’
