Tattooist acquitted of racial hate plot

A St Helier tattooist has been acquitted of plotting to spread racial hatred by a jury in London.

Jon Denny-Mallen (40), of St Martin, walked free from Southwark Crown Court yesterday at the end of a week-long trial.

He and William Browning (39), an old school friend and fellow Jerseyman who has addresses in Deptford, London, and Almorah Crescent, St Helier, were both accused of one count of conspiracy to distribute material with intent to stir up racial hatred between 1 January and 13 july 2006.

They both denied the offence.

The jury failed to reach a verdict in the case against Mr Browning, a self-confessed former member of the racist group Combat 18. He now faces the prospect of a retrial.
