THE developers of the £30 million Liberty Wharf Waterfront project have been told work will have to stop this week if contractors keep breaking planning and building rules.

Builders will be ordered to down tools on Friday if a deadline for the supply of necessary information is not met. This is the second consecutive week in which officials have felt forced to set a deadline for compliance with rules that govern architecture, planning and protection of the historic environment.

Developers Harcourt have been given another warning about the activities of contractors. Officers from Planning and Environment have had to issue repeated warnings in recent weeks.

Harcourt director Pat Power said: ‘Liberty Wharf retail is a complex scheme involving planning and bye laws requirements together with historical interest issues which we have approached with great sensitivity. There are no notices. We endeavour to comply with all statutory requirements and all information requests have been satisfactorily responded too and we will continue to do so.’
