ON what planet, I ask, does Michael de Petrovsky live, reference his letter on the animal kingdom (JEP, 30 November)?

It would seem, however, that Christianity is getting a rest from his diatribes, or maybe he knows that he cannot win that battle. His recent letter rambles on about Jersey being a little pimple on the global map and that its population has no concept of suffering in the wider world.

Not true, for regular collections and various events take place to help those starving and suffering in our world, not to mention Jersey’s Overseas Aid contributions.

Few people in our part of the world are distant from media communications, which brings paramount issues and situations into our homes.

Mr de Petrovsky displays audacity in repeating a claim that pets – I notice the non-inclusion of farm animals – are responsible for global warming and misuse of food.

In the case of the production of farm animals, there is truth when land is wasted, and likewise water, to produce unnecessary food for good health and well-being, not to mention that such food, etc, is violence based. All this done to creatures who are sentient, much like ourselves.

Finally, the most arrogant and aggressive predators are to be found in the human species, not the animal kingdom.
