AZTEC Springfield maintained their 100 per cent record at the top of Division II in the NatWest 6-a-side Indoor Cricket League last night following a one-run victory.
With four juniors in their line-up at Fort Regent, Springfield’s winning sequence was in danger of being ended by Jersey Seniors only for Peter Brookes to hold his nerve and hit the bowler’s end stumps with a direct hit to win Springfield the game.
Springfield, who returned to the top of the table and are now ten points clear of second-placed JUBRFC, were 121 all out after 11.1 overs having been 79 for one off seven overs.
Stuart Robson and Brookes both made 30 before the wickets were spread evenly as the Seniors were dismissed for 120 off the final ball of the game.
The experience of Andy Gibbs, Dave Gorman, Chris Searson and Derek de la Haye kept the Seniors up with the required run rate. Mick Higgitt took some clever quick singles to keep Gorman on strike only for Brookes to dash their hopes of victory with his direct hit.
