JERSEY’S bid team for the 2015 Island Games have today announced which sports they will be offering to host.

Officials this morning confirmed the 14 sports that will be included and they are: archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, football, golf, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, and volleyball.

It’s great news for those sports, particularly the likes of cycling which was controversially dropped from the NatWest Island Games in Aland this year. But it’s bad news for squash, judo and gymnastics as they will miss out if Jersey’s bid to host the event is successful. Bowls, too, will play no part.

Phil Austin, chairman of the Jersey 2015 Bid Committee, said: ‘There are 18 approved sports which have traditionally been part of the Island Games and we have had to leave out four, which is never easy.’

Well what a joke this is

Gymnastics isnt included? Why not. I won 7 medals in Aland in gymnastics – the most individual medals out of anyone in the Jersey team.

Over the last decade Jersey gymnasts have come third in bringing back the most medals for the Island from Island Games (behind swimming and just behind athletics)

I think they should base this decision on success in the past, not a personal opinion on what sports they like
