BARS and restaurants have been challenged to freeze prices next year after the States rejected duty increases on drink.
Earlier this week politicians voted by 28-23 to reject an increase of 6.2% in alcohol duty and tobacco and fuel duty rises of 10%.
Deputy Sean Power was the politician who put the successful amendment to the Budget to the States.
But now he wants the Island’s hospitality industry to freeze prices in response to the freeze on duty rates.
‘I am now issuing a challenge and a request to those in Jersey’s pub trade and hospitality industry to hold their prices as much as possible for 2010 and match the will of the States Assembly on my recent amendment to not increase impðt duties,’ he said.
