Ashton de Carteret was jailed for three years
THE shocking level of alcohol-fuelled violence on the streets of St Helier was laid bare again yesterday when a 24-year-old man was jailed for a ‘frenzied, savage and relentless’ attack.
Ashton Helier de Carteret was jailed for three years for repeatedly kicking, stamping on and punching a crane operator while he lay unconscious on the ground. It was the second savage attack to be described in the Royal Court in as many days.
Yesterday, the court heard how de Carteret’s girlfriend tried to pull him away as he launched the ferocious attack.
His 34-year-old victim suffered a broken jaw in the assault and required surgery to insert metal plates. He also received multiple cuts and bruises. He was in hospital for four days and will need further surgery on the jaw the court heard.
De Carteret, who is the sole carer for his mother, admitted committing a grave and criminal assault on the man on 14 August in Hope Street.
