Le Couilliard has qualified for the Commonwealth Games
JERSEY swimmers were in record breaking form over the weekend with Ian Black leading the way in Australia in securing a Commonwealth Games qualification time together with winning a medal in the Queensland State Championshps.
A multi-medallist in the NatWest Island Games in Aland in the summer, Black, who was representing City of Perth 2, swam a personal best time of four minutes and 29 seconds dead in the 400 metre individual medley to make the final.
Black’s performance put him inside the time set by the Jersey Amateur Swimming Association to the make the XIX Commonwealth Games in Delhi next October.
The former AIB Tigers swimmer won his bronze medal as part of the City of Perth 2’s 4 x 100 medley relay team which placed third in the Brisbane based event.
Fellow Jerseyman Simon Le Couilliard, competing in the same championship, returned after a long absence through injury and appendicitis to break his own Island record in the 100-metre butterfly.
