Jon Welsh, the new Island football team manager Jon Welsh
FORMER Jersey under-18 team manager Jon Welsh has been appointed senior Island football team manager until the end of the season.
Jersey Football Association president Ricky Weir confirmed the appointment today and both parties say they are delighted.
Welsh, who is currently manager of the Dandara Jersey Football Combination representative side who reached the quarter-finals of the FA Carlsberg National League System Cup on Saturday, recently said he had not considered taking the Island managerial position but, after a long discussion with Weir, he changed his mind.
Welsh will continue to run the Combination side coupled with helping Jersey bid to retain the Muratti Vase next year.
Welsh said: ‘Yes, I’ve changed my mind and it’s a great honour to be asked and I have accepted. It’s a short-term appointment until the end of the season and I will give it my full commitment.
