Flybe will put on extra flights over the Christmas period

Flybe will put on extra flights over the Christmas period

AIRLINE Flybe has moved quickly to try to take advantage of the strikes announced by British Airways cabin crew by putting on six additional flights from Jersey to Gatwick over Christmas.

The airline said that due to unprecedented demand, it has added the extra services from the Island to Gatwick on 24, 26 and 27 December, as well as on 2 January.

The airline will also fly bigger aircraft to offer more seats on flights to the London airport throughout the period. There will be more services with the 118-seater Embraer jet replacing the 78-seater Dash 8 aircraft. The airline has emailed thousands of Islanders to say that, with additional flights and more seats available, people need not worry about being unable to travel over Christmas and the New Year period.

I have to say, though I’ve been somewaht scathing of Flybe in the past. After the way they treated a friend of mine on the way home after she was in UK for hospital treatment.Flights at short notice, arrangements for special neds at Gatwick and Jersey, the care of the cabin setaff on the flight. I humbely apologise. An ill wind, gives Flybe a chance to shine.

I fly the Jersey Gatwick route often and have always found Flybe as good a service as BA
If you fly without baggage Flybe is cheaper add their baggage charge not much difference. I have bean seriously delayed 4 times, twice BA twice Flybe.I have arrived at check in too late for the flight twice once BA once Flybe, both time the relevant company booked me on the next flight free of charge.
Up until now I have always booked the flight with the most convenient times. Not any more , why should I pay towards keeping jobs for selfish BA cabin staff who have decided the way forward is to keep families apart during the season of goodwill.
IF this strike materialises I will be using Flybe exclusively.

I hope that the tears of those who have their Christmas trashed will wash away all future hopes and dreams for the striking BA staff

I thought we should compare the cost of travelling from London to Jersey by air.

I selected comparable flights, leaving tomorrow.

FlyBe fare LGW-JER, 18/1209: £89.69 PLUS £32.30 taxes PLUS £3.00 per person, per leg booking fee PLUS £9.99 per bag = £135.18

    BA fare LGW-JER 18/12/09: £104 all-in.

    No contest, really.

I still wouldn’t use Flybe. I prefer a cheaper service without paying for extras like suitcases. I also like to have confidence that my flight won’t be delayed for a variety of reasons.

Actually the high court ruled the ballot invalid, forcing the union to cancel this strike.

I’ll be interested to see whether they now sit sensibly with BA and talk this through, or go for another ballot. If they really believed the strike was right and just I’d expect a 2nd ballot, but if they suspect that they’ve been caught trying to hoodwink their members into a damaging action maybe they shy away from losing at the ballot?

I’ll be interested to see whether the management sit sensibly with union representatives to resolve this in the proper manner. Time will tell.
