Beckie Herbert
GREAT Britain came so close to victory over world number two hockey nation Argentina yesterday, with Jersey’s Beckie Herbert in the thick of the action.
The 23-year-old came on as a substitute in the third of five test matches in the series in Salta, Argentina, which the home side won 4-3.
Great Britain took a two-goal lead after seven minutes, thanks to goals from Jo Ellis and Susie Gilbert, and did well to thwart any forward momentum Argentina looked to generate. The GB defence also stood firm as their opposition were kept out of the circle and denied any clear cut opportunities..
However, they were reduced to ten players with Herbert receiving a yellow card, following two greens, for taking the ball down from above shoulder height.
