A CONVICTED UK fraudster who pretended to be a 1(i)k Jersey resident was found guilty of conning banks and businessmen in the Royal Court yesterday.

Paul Andrew Self (52), who owned expensive cars and a luxury boat, claimed to be a super-rich Island resident – yet when he was arrested he told police he had hardly any income and had not paid any tax since arriving in the Island.

Self told a bank worker that he was a rich 1(i)k resident, but it was confirmed this morning that he was not given wealthy immigrant status.

The Assize jury of seven men and five women took less than an hour to reach unanimous guilty verdicts on six out of nine counts after the two-day trial.

Following the verdicts, defence advocate David Cadin revealed that Self had a previous criminal record.
