Street crime: New task force
Saturday 19th December 2009, 3:00PM GMT.

The new task force will be tackling vandalism as well as serious street crime
A TASK force is being launched to fight rising levels of anti-social behaviour and serious violence on the streets of St Helier.
The group, to be called the Policing of St Helier Policy Group, will tackle everything from litter and vandalism to the rising number of alcohol-fuelled night-time assaults.
The announcement comes as Home Affairs Minister Ian Le Marquand revealed to the JEP that the most serious forms of violence – including affray and grave and criminal assaults – increased by over 17 per cent this year.
The shocking level of street crime in town was recently highlighted in two high-profile court cases which saw four Islanders jailed for between three and four-and-a-half years for committing serious drunken attacks.
