The year 2002 saw the Hotel de France badly damaged by fire; new blue buses on Jersey’s roads; the first civil wedding outside the Officer of the Superintendent Registrar’s Office; a four-day celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee; and the Battle of Flowers centenary parade.

Other events included the twinning of  St Helier with Bad Wurzach, where Islanders were interned during the Occupation; the completion of the  Millennium Mosaic; an extremely popular food fair at St Aubin; success for Philip Ozouf in the Senatorial elections; and the opening of new attractions on the waterfront.

• A review of the decade, plus a look back at the devastating 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, a full entertainment guide, cartoons of the decade, a suggested walk for the holiday, a news quiz and crossword can all be found in the JEP’s special Boxing Day edition on sale all this week to raise money for the Joint Charities Christmas Appeal
