Islanders woke on Boxing Day to news of one of the worst natural disasters in living memory - the earthquake and tsunami which struck in south-east Asia, killing thousands of people and leaving thousands more homeless. An Islandwide appeal was launched for funds to bring relief to those whose lives were shattered. Many Island families had lucky escapes, including four members of the Thébault family, of Grouville, who arrived home safely after fleeing the tidal waves in Sri Lanka. The family ran for their lives after Mrs Thébault saw the first wave racing towards their beachside hotel. Daniel and Jenny Thébault were pictured with sons Simon, Louis and Brett back home in Jersey after their ordeal. Picture:Rob Currie
