Hundreds of Islanders responded to an appeal to form the words Side by Side on the beach at Le Braye as a mark of solidarity with those affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami in south-east Asia on Boxing Day 2004
The year of 2005 was dominated by fund-raising events in aid of those affected by the devasting Boxing Day earthquake and tsunami in south-east Asia which resulted in huge loss of life.
Jersey also marked the 60th anniversary of the Liberation and thousands welcomed the Queen and Prince Philip for the occasion.
The States sat for the final time before the implementation of ministerial government and a Jersey Great Ormond Street Hospital Appeal raised £1.5 million to pay for one of the floors of a new patient hotel.
