A 29-YEAR-OLD man was stabbed in St Helier on Christmas Eve.

Hugh James Brown (57) allegedly stabbed the victim in the stomach with a knife and has been charged with grave and criminal assault. He was due to appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Christmas was busy for the States police, with 33 people taken into custody for a variety of offences between midday on Christmas Eve and 8 am today.

Ten people were arrested for assaults and nine traffic-related arrests – which included offences such as a hit-and-run and drink-driving.
