The year of 2008 saw Jersey aid workers caught up in violence which erupted in Kenya; a fire which destroyed Wesley Chapel; and the start of international publicity for Jersey with regard to the Haut de la Garenne inquiry.

The St Aubin sea wall was smashed by strong waves; a giant Ferris wheel was erected at the waterfront; a nightclub got into hot water by refusing entry to women considered ‘too fat’; the States decided to lift the ban on foreign bull semen imports; and it was the beginning of the end for Woolies.
