The year 2009 saw a world recession deepen with a number of Island firms closing their doors and staff losing jobs.
But there was plenty other news, with three large furze fires at the end of the summer; the launching of a new lifeboat; the swearing-in of a new Bailiff; a 50th birthday party for Durrell; a massive protest against unsightly development on the coast; and a visit from Jersey singing star Nerina Pallot.
