Football out of Island Games?

The Jersey football team in training before their triumph in Aland
FOOTBALL could be run separately from the main Island Games week in future, if enough support for that suggestion is found in the returns to a consultation document.
There is also a suggestion in the wide-ranging document, sent out by the executive committee to member Islands this week, that men’s and women’s football competitions could be held at alternative Games, giving each gender a competition every four years.
The document is offering various solutions and suggestions to help control the size and costs of the popular biennial NatWest Island Games, with the suggestion about football being just one of many.
Jersey are the current football gold medallists, having triumphed over hosts Aland in the final in July.
