The Social Security Department in La Motte Street
MORE than 1,000 Islanders were registered as unemployed and were looking for work at the end of November.
Figures published by the Social Security Department for the period up to the 30th of the month show that 1,089 people had registered and that of these 696 were men and 393 were women.
Of those registered, 698 were receiving Income Support. The unemployment total for October was 997, which is 92 fewer than in November. A significant proportion of those looking for work were young people, 41.5 per cent being below the age of 24.
However, commentary accompanying the figures says that the majority of those registering with Social Security remain registered for fewer than 12 weeks.
