Plans to transform St Helier Harbour will be going out for consultation this year

JERSEY Harbours are not ruling out getting rid of mud moorings in the St Helier Old Harbour, despite an eight-year waiting list for this type of berth.

The eradication of the berths could form part of a £17 million transformation of the Harbour, with the first £1.8 million phase subject to a consultation period later this year.

Proposals include upgrading the number of facilities in St Helier, increasing the number of moorings for local boat owners and improving the quality of facilities for visiting crews.

In a letter to boat owners, Harbours chief executive Howard Le Cornu said that a number of drying berths in both the English and French Harbours would be retained.

But he did say that ‘whether or not further drying berths would be retained at the top of the Old Harbour would depend on what boat owners tell us when they are asked during the 2010 consultation process’.

”eight-year waiting list for this type of berth”.
When I bought my first yacht that was moored near St.H Yacht club. I was told I couldn’t have the mooring because of the waiting list. 6 years on there is still no boat on that mooring. When I bought an Orkney near the steam clock. I was told I couldn’t have the mooring and it had to be moved immediately because of the waiting list. 2 years on, still no boat on it. When we moved my dad’s boat from opposite Normans to St Aubin. 3 years on and still no boat has taken up the old mooring.
There are still a lot of un used moorings that have no boats on them year after year or wrecks that should be scrapped.
If a states carpark had that many rusty wrecks of cars with no doors or wheels, they would be dumped.
