Shame about the slogan

From Madeline Bates.
I SAW the new Jersey Tourism advert in a Sunday magazine at the weekend and was pleased to see Durrell and the meerkats being used as a selling point.
As a frequent visitor to Durrell myself, I recommend it to as many people as possible, both here and when I visit the UK, as it is one of the few family attractions left in Jersey and definitely the best.
What failed to impress me was the slogan ‘Europe without the euro’. What message is that supposed to convey? I am sure many places could say the same, including England, but it would hardly make somebody jump up and down, shouting ‘I must go there!’
Surely a better enticement would be ‘The British Isle with a foreign flavour’ or something along those lines. You need to advertise the close proximity to both France and the other Islands, pointing out that when you visit Jersey, you can also enjoy a day at other places at a very reasonable price.
Also, the excellent bus service during the season, which brings all of the Island’s beautiful bays within easy reach.
Tourism need to get their act together, or the fall in visitor numbers will steadily increase, until no one wants to come here any more.
