Businesses rally together in cold snap

The icy roads caused disruption earlier in the week
JERSEY’S strong sense of community spirit is helping the business community cope with the challenges posed by the current cold snap.
Many banks and finance houses found themselves with unexpected new staff members as some parents took their children into work while the schools were closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
Others were able to work from home using systems designed to allow businesses to cope with flu pandemics.
The willingness of Islanders to respond positively to adversity had helped minimise the impact so far, said Gary Drinkwater, the chairman of the Jersey branch of the Institute of Directors.
And the secretary of the Jersey Bankers Association, Martyn Scriven, said that all of the banks had contingency arrangements in place to allow people to work at home if necessary.
