When it’s cold, call on someone old ... a few groceries can make all the difference
ISLANDERS are being urged to call on their elderly neighbours during the freezing weather.
Although the snow has been not as severe as in the UK, the cold spell is due to continue over the weekend and into next week.
And although the roads were clearer this morning, many pavements are too dangerous for older people and there are fears they could run out of supplies.
Simple things such as bread and milk – or even a warm meal – could be enough to help people manage until the conditions improve.
Age Concern chairman Daphne Minihane is leading the appeal and encouraging everyone to pop in on the elderly in their community.
Anyone who needs assistance can call the Age Concern Freephone number on 0800 735 0345.
