Betting odds switch to be a non-runner?

HORSE racing bosses in the UK are taking a punt by changing the way betting odds are displayed, making them easier to understand.

But one of Jersey’s oldest bookies does not see much chance of the system catching on in Jersey. Neville ‘Honest Nev’ Ahier said that bookies and gamblers were probably ‘too set in their ways’.

The radical experiment to change betting odds from fractions to decimals was announced by the Racing Enterprises, the commercial arm of British horse racing.

They want to attract more gamblers to the sport and will trial the new system at a horse racing weekend in April.

Under the proposed change, odds of 100/30 would become 4.33-1 (the total return on the bet, including the stake) making it easier at a glance to know the potential winnings of a wager.

Sadly, Neville Ahier is talking rubbish. Internet betting has become a revolution, so punters have adapted to decimalised prices very easily. Unfortunately, it’s the ‘old school’ like Nev who are struggling to adapt, not his punters
