An emergency exercise will be held at the Airport next week
THE Island’s response to a major disaster will be tested next week with an emergency exercise at the Airport.
Exercise Front, as the exercise is known, will take place on Wednesday and will involve more than 20 different departments and organisations, including the emergency services.
A number of Islanders have also volunteered to play various roles in the staged aircraft disaster which will give those involved the chance to test how they would respond to a major emergency.
Jersey’s emergency planning officer Michael Long said that while full details are not being made public to ensure the scenario is as realistic as possible, travellers will be kept fully informed at all times.

How can we be confident the Island’s authorities can deal with a major disaster, if they find it hard to cope with a small amount of snow?
Indeed if there is still snow on the ground next week, surely the exercise will be cancelled on health and safety grounds. They couldn’t possibly have to rescue people in such poor weather.

Surely having people turn up to watch and take photographs is now part of every real-life accident. It would make the exercise MORE realistic!
