Cheaper and more regular

From Diane Bougeard.
MY partner and I were recently in Guernsey for a weekend and, as before, we marvelled at the excellent bus service they run.
There is a flat rate of 60p wherever you go, however far you go, compared to our prices of £1 and £1.50, which is a massive saving on a daily or weekly basis. There is also room to sit down without sitting on the next person’s lap and room to get your knees in without having to sit sideways. And God forbid if you have shopping as well.
The thing that really got to us though was the amount of buses there were, to every part of the Island, even on a Sunday and bank holidays. We stayed at the Imperial Hotel in Torteval which I would say is an equivalent distance of L’Etacq, and there is a bus every half hour on a Sunday and bank holiday as well.
As people in L’Etacq and Corbière well know (as well as many other parts of the Island), there are no buses on a Sunday so if anyone wants to go out for lunch on a Sunday or go anywhere at all, somebody has to drive or we have to take a taxi, which is not cheap (again, unlike Guernsey where they are so affordable).
Surely we could learn a lot from Guernsey who seem to have got it right and offer a fabulous bus service at a great price. They have also retained their quaintness without trying to create a mini-Manhattan, but don’t get me started on that!
