Tom Gallichan has been called up to swim for England
ISLAND swimmer Tom Gallichan has been called up to swim for England for the first time in the Home Nations Schools’ International meeting in March.
The 17-year-old Highlands College student will be among of squad of 40 swimmers for the meet, which takes place in Glasgow over the weekend of 19, 20 and 21 March.
Gallichan will represent England in his specialist 100 and 200 metre backstroke events together with being available for relays.
AIB Tigers performance coach Nathan Jégou said: ‘This is great news for Tom and everyone is delighted for him. To get a call up for your country at any level or competition is a very good achievement. Swimming for England will also give him another opportunity to gain a Commonwealth Games qualifying time.’
