The seats on these buses are too small

Saturday 23rd January 2010, 2:59PM GMT.

From Graham Evans.
AT last! A protest about the seating in buses in a letter from Diane Bougeard (JEP, 11 January).

As an infrequent, but now increasingly frequent user of Connex buses, I have been amazed at the docility of the passengers who accept such appalling seating.
It is impossible for any normal-sized person to sit facing forwards in the seats.

Also, it is a struggle to reach a seat at the rear of the bus due to the narrowness of the aisle. The seats have less knee-room than those of the cheapest airline.

Do the managers of Connex think that all the inhabitants of Jersey are dwarfs?
Furthermore, although apparently this is to be improved, there is completely inadequate provision for the luggage of passengers going to the Airport.

Sometimes, particularly during holiday periods, there are as many as ten seats occupied by luggage. Surely the inhabitants of the Island deserve better than this?

If the authorities want more people to use the buses rather than their cars, they will have to improve these aspects of the bus service.

Crikey, just how chubby are you?
Heaven forbid you may need an ambulance.

A bit harsh SHJ. I mean the London busues are eight feet wide and when full of buggies, suitcases, school kids and some muppet trying to get a 48 inch flat screen TV on ( I kid you not!) it can get a bit crowded. Mr. Evans has pointed a problem. Buses are built to carry people, not the stuff people carry. As was politley (Honestly) pointed out to TV man. That is called a ‘funiture van’.

Just a quickie. Call from a colleauge on the last bus of the day, ‘Someone has left a baby buggy on board’. ‘OK.just bring it back to the garage’
‘Eh yes, but, they have also left the baby in it’..
