We do take this seriously
Saturday 23rd January 2010, 3:00PM GMT.
From Barry Taylor, acting deputy chief officer, States Police.
I REFER to the letter entitled ‘There was not even one policeman in sight’ (JEP, 14 January).
I can confirm the incident to which the author of the letter refers was reported to the police at the time by a member of the public and was monitored on our CCTV system. Officers who were nearby were deployed and four males were arrested some three minutes later.
Three of the four men arrested have now been processed with various offences and one has already been dealt with at the Magistrate’s Court, where he was fined.
It is regrettable that the author of the letter was not aware of the outcome of the incident. However, I have today written to him to assure him that the States of Jersey Police do take such matters seriously and are on patrol on the streets of St Helier, as evident by our quick response and positive action.
