A TOTAL of 29 sex offences against children were reported to the States police last year, figures obtained by the NSPCC have revealed.

On four of the occasions the victims were aged ten or under, and one rape victim was just seven years old.

Home Affairs Minister Ian Le Marquand said that although no data was available from previous years for comparison, the figures were likely to reflect the steep increase in child protection issues locally in the wake of the historical abuse inquiry and the ‘Baby P’ case.

‘Baby P’, later named as Peter Connelly, died in the UK in 2007 at the age of 17 months after suffering more than 50 injuries over an eight-month period, despite being seen several times by social workers.
