Sam Dewhurst: Concentrating on the Nepal campaign
JERSEYMAN Sam Dewhurst has put cricket before football as the Dandara Jersey Football Combination squad prepare for their home Carlsberg FA National League System Cup quarter-final this weekend.
The multi-talented First Tower United defender has withdrawn from the football squad to continue his involvement with Jersey’s cricket squad, for their three-match tour to India next month and then on to Nepal for the World Cricket League Division V tournament.
Dewhurst was left with a decision to make about which sport to play; he his chosen cricket and Combination and Jersey football team manager Jon Welsh fully understands why.
Welsh said: ‘Sam has withdrawn because of his commitment to the Jersey Cricket Board and I can see why. The cricketers are spending a lot of time training as they get closer to their tournament and I fully understand Sam’s decision to put cricket first.’
