States ‘must back e-gaming law’

JERSEY’S attractiveness to new businesses could be put at risk unless the States back e-gaming legislation later this year, the Economic Development Minister has warned.

And Senator Alan Maclean says that unless Jersey acts quickly then Guernsey could race ahead in the battle for finance and other business in future.

Guernsey now enjoys total internet capacity to the UK that is five times greater than Jersey. Five years ago Jersey was slightly ahead in terms of bandwidth provision.

The increased bandwidth has resulted from Guernsey allowing e-gaming hosting to take place. And as a result Senator Maclean said the northern isle may be able to offer lower operating costs to new businesses in future.

    This is Ten years too late. Alderney and Gibralter have had this sown up and in the bag for years. When will we get a Casino? 2050 maybe? Or even better still, what about the National Lottery or even a flipping Bingo Hall for the pensioners? This Island may as well be run by Nuns.
