Mark Jordan is head chef at the Atlantic Hotel’s Ocean Restaurant. Last week he learned that he had been awarded a Michelin Star for the fourth successive year. He is also a self-confessed ‘petrol head’.
When and where did you pass your test and how many times dod you take it?
I passed my test on the second occasion, in the Midlands.
First car?
My first car was the most popular Mini, kitted out with big wheels and a very loud exhaust.
Favourite car?
It has to be something Italian, as I’m a Ducati rider. I would have to have something to match that, and that could only be my all-time dream car – the Lamborghini Murcielago.
Worst car?
Smart cars. I hate them with a passion.
Current car?
I drive a black BMW X5.
Dream car?
Yes – the Lamborghini Murcielago.
Your favourite drives?
It has to be where my parents live in North Wales, from Porthmadog along the mountain pass to Bala. It’s both a biker’s heaven and a dream for cars, with beautiful scenery and long, sweeping bends. Fantastic!
Motorsport interests?
My passion is anything with a petrol motor, from rallying to motorbikes and even go-karts fitted with a Yamaha R1 engine – I really am a petrol head. My all-time hero, because we grew up following him on the Welsh Rally, would have to be Colin McRae. In the world of motordbikes, it would be Valentino Rossi – a God among us bikers.
Driving ambitions?
My driving ambition would have to be taking part in the Monte Carlo Rally,l either as a driver or co-driver to someone like Sebastian Loeb. That would be an awesome thing to do, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Do you think you are a good driver?
I think that if you have been riding sports bikes for years it makes you very aware of the road dangers, which in turn makes you a better car driver, as you are more aware of what is around you. Yes, I think I’m a good driver.
What do you always carry with you on long journeys?
The BMW X5 is a great car, and mine comes with lots of optional extras, and one of them is the first aid kits under the seats, which is very clever of BMW. So it would have to be that inside the car. Outside, it would be my longboard.
Who would be your preferred passenger on a long journey?
My wife.
What makes you angry when you are driving?
Slow, panicky drivers. When you drive a vehicle you have to be confident, otherwise accidents can happen.
Have you ever been involved in a crash?
Just one, when I wrote off my Suzuki GSXR on a race track at Snetterton. But on the ordinary road, never.
What do you listen to when you are driving?
Stereophonics, Kings of Leon, Alicia Keys – that kind of stuff.
How could Jersey’s roads be improved?
I think for what they achieve Jersey roads are pretty good, but I live on Tower Road and the cars fly down there. Oe day there will be an accident, so that could be improved. And also it’s very annoying when large trucks use the back roads – they should be made to stick to the wider roads.
Do you clean your car, and how often?
Yes I do, and every week.
