Pro refs should remain for Muratti - but not the Upton

GUERNSEY have blown the full-time whistle on professional referees officiating at inter-island Upton Park Trophy football matches.

No longer will the players or the various Channel Islands’ men-in-black get the opportunity to gain from the experience of playing under or officiating with a Premiership or Championship referee.

The Upton Park, the unofficial Channel Islands’ club championship, is a Guernsey Football Association competition and their islands’ delegates agreed to the change at last year’s annual general meeting.

GFA referee development officer Graham Skuse made the proposal and it was accepted unanimously.
