JERSEY will stage the opening legs of one of France’s biggest cycling events this year.

When the Tour de Bretagne comes to the Island in April, it will be the first time that any part of the week-long race has been held outside Brittany. Time trials for the event were held here in 2007, but this year Jersey will stage the first two days of the race itself.

Around 400 cyclists are expected to take part in the prestigious event, which starts on 25 April and is due to end on 1 May in Dinan.

A 150-km route will run from Gorey through the eastern parishes, while a 10-km time trail will take place on Monday 26 April along the Five Mile Road.

I do hope that they and the other cyclists abide by the 1956 road traffic law by having something audible on their push bikes rather than swearing at the pedestrians and other road users,a bell might be nice. Also can they obey the above mentioned road traffic law by not riding at more than two abreast, this also includes when overtaking their chums. I am sure that our dear honorary police will ensure that they obey wil the laws of the road plus the use of foul language.

Typical, a new first time event for Jersey, upping the Island’s profile and bringing in desperately needed visitors and the only comment is negative.

I have watched a lot of cycle races in Brittany and they are great events, with much of the local population getting involved in one way or another. Behaviour described by Piston broke above I have not experienced.

Welcome to Life Enriching Jersey ay.

Attitudes such as the one displayed by the author if the first post disgust me. Why do people feel the need to moan about anything which makes life on this dull island slightly more interesting. We’ve seen this miserable outlook before with events such as the Harley Gathering, Battle of Flowers and Jersey Rally. These events are good for the island and enjoyed my the majority of the population, if you think otherwise you are in the minority.

This is fantastic for the Island i’m a great believer that we need to attract sports and other events to Jersey, this will reflect on all local businesses as a whole, as the owner of the BleuSoleil Campsite we have had the European Surfing team here, the Branchage Actors & Directors, the Army, climbers Cricket teams and even visitors with there WW2 Jeeps and Tanks for Liberation Day. So the message is open up Jersey for everyone and Jersey will not have to rely on just the Finance Industry for employment

    Great,
I live in Gorey, and not only do we have to put up with the selfish cyclists taking up the roads every weekend, I just found out that I will not be able to get out of my driveway for 5 hours when the race is on.

How about going the whole way and bringing the Tour de France time trial to Jersey?

Now…. I could live with that and it would put Jersey on a global stage.

    2.Jon James & 4.Getting Tired,

You ought to read some of the other comments from the regular ‘contributors’!!! If there’s anything to moan about, these people will find it.

P.S – I agree with you both, excellent news for the island, (I’m not even a cycling fan!!). Why have people got to be so negative all the time???
