Jodie Botterill ‘scored the goal of the game’ for First Tower
ST PAUL’S are firmly in the driving seat to win the Dandara Jersey Football Combination’s women’s divisional title for the first time.
The Saints defeated champions First Tower United for the second time this season on Sunday, 3-2 at La Hague Manor, and as a result they have opened a six-point advantage over their rivals with four games remaining. But the Saints still have to play Tower again and third-placed St John.
St Paul’s won the match with a fine second goal from Caroline Quénault just 90 seconds from the finish. Racing on to a fine pass from former Muratti captain Sarah Gavey, Quénault then lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper Krystle Matthews for what turned out to be the winning goal.
St Paul’s manager Kenny Addison said: ‘It was a great goal, a lovely pass from Sarah and a fine finish by Caroline. It was a good game too with both goalkeeper’s pulling off several saves.’
