Jersey Post is seeking to increase postal charges in a number of areas
JERSEY Post has applied to introduce a second-class post system which could see letters taking three days to get from Trinity to town.
Known as ‘standard delivery’, it will be slightly cheaper than next-day delivery. Islanders also face a general hike in postal charges if the applications for changes are approved by the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority.
Jersey Post is seeking permission for next day local delivery to go up from 37p to 39p. It also wants to increase the cost of posting a letter to the UK from 42p to 45p.
However, the company is proposing to charge the lower price of 36p for the three-day local delivery service.
Meanwhile, it will also cost more to send larger items if a new sized-based pricing system is accepted by the utility regulator. Price increases could be as high as 27 per cent, although the average is likely to be about nine per cent.
