A NEW scheme has been launched by Jersey Telecom to enable businesses to support Durrell.

The States-owned utility will make a cash donation to the wildlife conservation trust if a company opts not to accept free or discounted hand-sets when it renews a mobile phone contract. The money will instead go toward supporting an animal adoption scheme run by Durrell.

The amount donated will depend on the total number of ‘mobile services converted’ and their overall value.

As an example, a business which converts ten ‘standard mobile services’ would lead to a donation of £400 to Durrell.

The scheme got off to a flying start when HSBC Offshore Islands agreed to convert 50 mobile contracts to the new sim-card-only package. As a result, a £2,000 donation will be made to Durrell’s animal adoption programme.
