THE number of business travellers who came to the Island fell by nearly a fifth last year compared to 2008 and overall air arrivals fell by over eight per cent.

Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean said that business travel was down by 18 per cent in 2009 and that the overall number of air arrivals was down by 8.3 per cent.

However, there was some good news as sea arrivals from the UK were up by 10.2 per cent in 2009 compared to 2008 while overall sea arrivals were down by 1.5 per cent.

Sea arrivals to France in 2009 fell in comparison to the previous year as HD Ferries operated in 2008 but not in 2009.

However, Assistant Economic Development Minister Paul Routier said that compared to some UK regions Jersey did reasonably well.
