PLANS to transform Les Ormes into a mini Center Parc could bring over £3 million into Jersey’s economy each year and save local attractions, according to the park’s owner, Mike Graham.

He hopes to build an additional 30 self-catering units on the St Brelade site, attracting around 4,500 more tourists a year who will spend their money in the Island.

Mr Graham expects that the extra visitors would keep local attractions open and he has calculated that Durrell alone would get a boost of £28,000 a year.

If the plans are approved by Planning, Mr Graham hopes to start building in October so that the units would be ready for next summer. The development would cost roughly £7 million

I think one of the reasons for Centerparcs being popular in the UK is that you can get there cheaply ie just drive your family there in the car!My daughter and family are having a week at one in the summer(only 2 hours away by road) and it is a reasonably priced holiday for the four of them and plenty for the children to do.Unfortunately it is not quite as easy or cheap for a family to get to Jersey even if there was anything on a par with Centerparcs when you get there. The chalets at Les Ormes are very nice-we looked at them when last on the island visiting family, but it all comes down to the expense of air/sea travel and cost of things when you get there.

Center Parcs are renowned for their piece and quiet. Can anyone remind me who the neighbour to Les Ormes is please?

Mind you – after a couple of years they can be rented out as non-quallie accomm …

I have now read this several times, but I still cannot find 1st April anywhere. Cannot believe that they are serious in the proposal, let alone the figures quoted.

Anyone who still believes that Jersey has a future as a tourist destination, should log onto any of the airlines serving Jersey, and then make comparisons with the cost of flying from the UK to Jersey, while at the same time looking at what it will cost to fly from the UK to any southern European destination.

It is a total no brainer. Jersey just cannot compete.

Hmmmm… Les ormes charge min. £499 off-peak and then add in flights, car hire or ferry…not to mention the cost of food and site seeing.

Compare this to Centre parcs which start at £239 and add petrol!!! Most activities are onsite and not situated next to an airport!!!

This phrase, and ‘Jersey Way’ are quickly becoming to this site what Godwin’s Law is to other forums on the internet.

Keyser Soze – does that mean those wishing to invest in the tourism industry should just give up?

Admit it Soze, you cant hide behind that devil mask anymore, your not going to rouse support for your poorly built first time homes on here Clancy!
