Double-deckers aren’t the answer

From James Monnelly.
I WRITE in response to the ‘new’ improved bus service introduced on 1 February. Quite frankly, I can’t see how it has improved things at all.

I don’t take the bus by choice, but have to as my partner requires the use of a car in the day. Going into town from St Brelade is fine. The Express service has been a godsend, reducing the journey time from 40 minutes to about 25.

But going home is still a nightmare. Today I used the 6.05 pm number 15 and the driver squeezed about 50 people on the bus.

I suggest at this time of day there should be a relief bus. In fact, at this time of day there should be a shuttle bus going along Victoria Avenue which would skip all the inner road stops. This would encourage more people to use the buses as, quite frankly, if I had a car I would not use the bus at all.

I’m not sure double-deckers are the answer. You already have to wait long enough for someone to work themselves from the back seat of the bus through a throng of people to get off at First Tower, and this will only be worse with a double-decker.
