Have-a-go hero left disabled
Saturday 13th February 2010, 3:00PM GMT.

Oscar Isik.
A MAN left severely disabled after he tried to stop a pub fight has told his story for the first time.
Oscar Isik (38), from Turkey, has been forced to a live a life sentence confined to a wheelchair and communicating through a computer while his attackers are free to walk the streets.
In the concluding part of the JEP’s week-long special investigation into street crime, Mr Isik has spoken about the night an attack by four drunken ‘animals’ left him with a severe brain injury.
On 27 March 2004 Mr Isik was attacked in a bar in St Helier as he tried to stop a gang assaulting a man.
Mr Isik has been unable to visit his family in Turkey since the attack because of legal and financial problems and is being cared for by the Jersey Cheshire Home.
Typing into his light writer – a portable computer he uses to communicate – he thanked Jersey for the care he has been given. ‘I like this Cheshire Home,’ he wrote. ‘They give me good care. Not just me – everyone gets good care. For me it is important that Cheshire Home and manager and her staff are thanked for me.’
