Funds to boost economy ‘are not getting through’
Monday 15th February 2010, 3:00PM GMT.

Panel chairwoman Senator Sarah Ferguson
MILLIONS of pounds of public money being pumped into the economy to keep Islanders in work during the recession is taking too long to get through, a Scrutiny panel has concluded.
Their report, which was published late last week, has backed the £44m economic stimulus plan, but says that it does not offer enough support for private firms and that the process is too slow. So far, cash released from the stimulus fund has gone to fund States projects.
The panel say that departments should have been more active in telling the private sector about the opportunities for funding.
The Corporate Services Scrutiny panel recommend that all information about spending under the plan should be published, subject to rules about commercial sensitivity.

Not sure that pumping millions into turning social houses into mansions is going to boost the economy!

Have they ever thought about investing some of this money into park outside the town hospital, with all those drunks hanging about.
A mate of mine can often be seen there, a typical bench dwelling drunk! Dirty and smelly, all drinking beer from 8am til midnight!
Even he suggested putting some money into the area outside the hospital will benefit the community, hopefully that’ll help him get cleaned up! or a shower at least!

After your mate is cleaned up and showered, Jambo, what sort of work would he like to do?

hmmmm…. States of Jersey, employ TTS, who employ UK and Jersey Engineers just to resurface a road!! So 2/3rds of Engineers fees, go to the States and the UK.

Well yet another way to waste money with no visible returns and apparently the result of the scrutiny is that the States aren’t wasting our money fast enough and need some help?

Reads rather like what is going on over here in Britain, all the fiscal stimulus targetted at failed bankers, that caused thgis recession in the first, whilst manufacturing, which we need to get out of this mess is allowed to decline to the point of oblivion.
Economics of the mad-house rules – OK!!!

Plenty of jobs in Jersey for drinkers!
I know plenty of high flyers who spend most weekends in a stupor bought on by drink

Magnolia Man – thanks for showing interest!
My mate, let’s call him Handles, as i don’t want to reveal his real name.
He used to be a foreign exchange trader, but now all he does is drink. Shame really, he wasn’t bad…
Long hair, stubble and smelly, how’s he going to get a job without help…

A am not suprised that so much of this extra cash is simply flowing straight out of the island. Did not thouse in authority see this happening !
Tried to spend some money locally this week when my car broke down. Approached a local garage who was too busy to look at it, which prevented me from employing a local recovery firm to transport car to the garage. ~In the meantime, I sussed out what part on the fuel injection had packed up, and promptly ordered it on the internet and fitted it myself!
Ironically, the supplier of the part charged me VAT but as I wanted my car fixed I was in no position to argue.
I really did try to ‘recycle’ my pound locally, honest !

The funds are getting through alright – straight into the back pockets (hands) of all the developers ‘favoured’ by our representatives.
