DESPITE a late scare the Investec Jersey men’s hockey team have made it into the quarter-finals of the England Hockey National Trophy for the third year running.

After a 4-3 victory over Bramhall in Manchester yesterday, team manager Ed Daubeney said: ‘Jersey produced an excellent performance over a high flying North West Division II side who were on a six-game unbeaten run.

‘Only a slight wobble in the last three minutes ever gave us cause for concern. It was a bit tense at the end. We had a 4-1 lead and we thought we were in control.

‘But a combination of a loss of concentration plus the opposition having a very good short penalty corner taker gave them the opportunity to put pressure on us right up to the last minute.

‘This is a fantastic achievement as it is the third year running that we have made it to the quarter-final. But we have never progressed past this stage so we would like to break through and go one stage further if not more.’
