J-category housing decision to be shelved – for now

The Housing ministerial decision has been shelved
THE decision to allow essential employees to buy any property in Jersey has been shelved – for now.
Housing Minister Terry Le Main has pulled a U-turn on his ministerial decision to open up the last remaining 20% of the property market to J-category workers, but says that he will bring it back to the States later this year.
The move brings a temporary halt to a farcical chain of events – Senator Le Main was criticised for taking the decision without a mandate from the States and for going on holiday immediately after it was made and when it was announced.
The Senator has revealed that there were three applications by J-category staff during the fortnight between the decision being enacted and suspended – one to buy a property, and two to lease – and that they are likely to be approved.

Hmmm, I suppose that’s what we can expect when our over-worked and under-vacationed Minister in charge of housing makes decisions off his own bat.
Surely Senator Terry le Main and Deputy Sean Power have the political nous to take proper professional and legal advice before shooting their mouths off?
The mind boggles, it really does. But that’s “the Jersey way” for you.

What a joke this man is,total lack of Forethought,The arrogance of Mr T Le Main is just Unbelievable.he is just not up to the job, which we have all known for many many years.after such a major Faux pas He goes on holiday,I am sure, knowing the mess that he has caused. He must now GO.

This is a real shame but hopefully Terry will bring the proposal back again soon.

I ask the question that while no one had the time to get the process started due to the system not fully installed how 3 people got applications in so quick.
Would be very interesting to find out who the 3 applications are from and if any were developers?

What an absolute farce. There is barely a day goes by without a Jersey politician launching a hare brained ‘initiative’ or being exposed as a fool.

I listened to Terry Le Main explaining why this should happen.
He believed that by increasing the number of people eligible to buy houses house prices would not increase. Many other members questioned him on this and sadly he could not see the logic that more demand will increase prices.
This lack of understanding by our housing minister leads me to wonder why he is our housing minister and even in the states?

This marks a complete failure for the Housing Ministers and the civil servants concerned.
Change the law for a few weeks, let through a few applications and then change it back again.
It just shows up the shambles that is Jersey government and the States!

I should think so too, look out for the Jersey born for a change.

Time and Time again,Terry has proven that he cannot do this job,and should not even be a member of this committee, let alone be in charge.he sadly suffers from,FOOT IN THE MOUTH SYNDROME.He must know that he lacks the qualifications for this position.Leave and please leave NOW.
